Ceramics Courses at Sydney Ceramics Studios - 2017

Course offerings at the studios cater for beginners through to intermediate and advanced levels.
Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses cater for students who wish to pursue a professional studio
practice in Ceramics. Open Studio practice is offered to artists who wish to use the world-class
ceramics facilities at Hornsby.  


Diploma of Ceramics CUA51215
This course is offered part-time on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Hornsby Campus over 2 years.
​This qualification provides a comprehensive grounding in the technical and
theoretical fundamentals of the contemporary studio ceramics field.

Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts - Ceramics – CUA60715
This qualification provides a programme of advanced study options for refinement
of research, concept development and technical skills in a chosen area of specialisation
within the field of studio ceramics.

Open Studio Practice  158-28872
This programme provides the opportunity for participants to work on independent
projects in specific studio areas utilising the facilities at the Studio.
Technical support is available. Cost $1150 (+ materials) per semester

Thursday daytime
(36 hours) Introductory courses provide students with a solid foundation in ceramics skills
and techniques and are a perfect vehicle for developing skills in preparation for higher
level courses. These courses are offered on a term by term basis and run over 8 weeks.
Student materials are not included in course fee
Start date: 9 February Times 9:30 – 14:30 Cost - $495

Ceramics Handbuilding -  Night class  158-26058
Wednesday evening
This course is designed specifically for those interested in gaining or improving handbuilding skills.
The course is suitable for both beginners and intermediate level and runs over 8 weeks.
Student materials not included in course fee.
Start date: 15 February Times 18:00 – 21:00 Cost - $350

Ceramics Wheelforming -  Night class  158-24607
Wednesday evening
This course is designed specifically for those interested in gaining or improving wheelforming skills. 
The course is suitable for both beginners and intermediate level throwers and runs over 8 weeks.
Student materials not included in course fee.
Start date: 15 February Times 18:00 – 21:00 Cost - $350

Ceramics Surface Treatment  158-43031
Mondays
This offering will focus on a variety of Ceramics Surface Treatment Techniques with Natalie Velthuyzen.
The course runs over 4 consecutive Mondays.  
Student materials not included in course fee.
Start date: 6 March Times 9:30 - 4:00 pm Cost - $350

Ceramics Glaze and Fire  158-43030
Mondays
This hands-on practical course will focus on skills in glaze testing and making along with kiln firing.
Participants will work with their own choice of clay body and firing range.
Instruction on Kiln management, programming procedures and firing cycles will be given.

The course runs over 4 consecutive Mondays.  
Student materials not included in course fee.
Start date: 1 May Times 9:30 - 4:00 pm Cost - $350
